The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (Pre Nursery to Grade 5)
The famous Swiss psychologist, Jean Piaget stated “The principal goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done.” The Primary School is the fertile ground for cultivating such people, those who are strong, independent, learned, courageous and compassionate. We lay the foundation not only for all academic skills which are required for students to be truly successful in the 21st century, but plant the seeds of values that will hold the students in good stead throughout their lives.
At Pathways we aim to nurture children who enjoy academic rigour, care about others and the environment and can increasingly take responsibility for their own learning and actions. At the same time, we firmly believe that childhood should be full of fun and stress free. Thus, guided play, be it through sports, adventure activities or leisure, is an important part of the formal curriculum.
At Pathways our methodology is student-centred and inquiry based as we offer the IB Primary Years Programme which is in perfect alignment with our vision. We also strongly promote the use of Multiple Intelligences in the class room and work at differentiated levels. The maximum class size is usually 24 and each class is taught by a team of trained, qualified teachers who are also responsible for their pastoral care. Subject specialists teach Hindi, Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Information Technology and Physical Education, integrating it with the academic programme. Thus, learning within the class and outside is ‘significant, engaging, relevant and challenging’.
