Education is an essential element of the global response to climate change. Since the climate is changing drastically, there is all the more need to act and prepare the next generation to take care of the planet. Green Mentors is an organisation which is working relentlessly towards the sustainability of our environment. Green Teacher Training is their proud initiative working to create awareness about various environmental issues. Ms. Sheeba Kundu and Ms. Madhumati Goswami, from Pathways World School, Aravali attended a two-day Green Teacher training on 29th November 2019 and 30th November 2019 in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
The workshop aimed to prepare a whole new brigade of teachers to bring the Power of Nature into education through sustainable teaching practices with Indigenous values. It was a whole new experience for the teachers to understand various modules of the Green School program. The workshop covered all important aspects from Talks on Climate Change and its Impact on Education, Concept of Green School, Nature-inspired Green curriculum, Joyful green games, Green assessment, Framing Green school policies to Green school administration.
They were addressed by eminent speakers from all over the country like Mr. Virendra Rawat (Founder Green Mentors), Ms. Akanksha Rathi (Associate Councillor IGBC), Ms. Neha Raghav (Senior Manager, Environment Education, WWF- India), Mr. Manoj Kumar (Head of Net Zero Carbon Campus, Nalanda University), Ms. Kavita Singh (Organic Farming Consultant), Ms. Rekha Lalla (Former Headmistress of TERI Prakruti School) and Ms. Aditi Banerjee (Former head PRIA International Academy).
Teachers from PWS received the Certification of Green Teacher from Green Mentors, and now they are proudly called as GREEN TEACHERS! They are motivated to work towards the awareness about Climate change and Sustainability and adopting the Green practices in the School. We hope to bring in the Green policies and acquire the Certification for Green School from Indian Green Building Council, soon!!
