Blessed be the ties that bind generations. ~Unknown
Grandparents are the family’s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, The greatest storytellers, and the keepers of tradition. They are the anchors which hold family values together and impart them to future generations. To honour them, Pathways School Noida, celebrated Grandparents’ Day on 4th and 5th December 2019.
The primary wing was abuzz with excitement and animated conversation- the focus of being grandparents! It was a delight to see young minds relate their school activities with their grandparents even before the actual celebration. The grandparents were welcomed to a grand reception by their grandchildren to the cafeteria where they were happily served breakfast by the young and enthusiastic Pathwaysians.
The role of a family in strengthening the learning process in partnership with the school plays a pivotal role and this was evident in what the grandchildren had planned for the guests of honour. Grade 3 learners challenged their grandparents with riddles and timed puzzles. Grade 4 engaged in an applauding connection between the past and the present. The current unit of inquiry on Materials was innovatively used to understand the use of age-old materials in today’s world. Students were enthralled to note how the use of materials has changed over the years!
Grade 5 students had been eagerly awaiting to welcome their grandparents. They welcomed them with chocolates, retro musicals and warm smiles! The children expressed love towards their grandparents through a short video. The ambience was infused with unconditional love and emotions through these visuals. Grandparents and children bonded over stories from the past- stories of friendship, values and Organizations! A brilliant connection with the unit of inquiry was established when stories about organizations were shared. Engaging and interesting skills, from cold cooking to weaving were enjoyed by all!
After the stories, the grandparents took the lead and taught some skills to the children which included stitching, painting, knitting, decoration, etc. The children were full of praise and appreciation and were completely engaged throughout the learning process. This was an exhilarating experience for the students, teachers and grandparents. As a token of love saplings were gifted to them as souvenirs.
The eventful day concluded with the children and grandparents rejoicing together. Another day spent with enthusiasm, familial bonding and lifelong learning- the values that Pathways exemplifies!!
