PYP Exhibition Pathways Gurgaon
PYP Exhibition is a culmination of student learning over the PYP years. It provides opportunities for them to pursue their passion and put their learning in action. The process is challenging yet very fulfilling and rewarding for the entire learning community.
This year, in addition to giving students the voice and choice to select the issue for the Exhibition, the students were given the autonomy to also lead and plan the creative and organisational aspects of the Exhibition. The students volunteered to be a part of different departments, such as designing the Invitation Card, décor, music selection, Website Design, Posters, video on Making of the Exhibition, Teaser to name some.
The students made connections with one of the six transdisciplinary themes, instead of inquiring under a particular theme for the Exhibition. They pursued their passions through individual as well as group inquiries. They conducted many social experiments, awareness campaigns and tree plantations. The children sensitized the employees – didis, conductors and drivers of school – about the importance of education and gender equality. They were very resourceful too. They took initiative to organize guest speaker sessions by their parents, grandparents and more. Interviews and surveys from people in community and in school (School Director, GM admin, Caterman etc) helped them understand how the school and their community works towards conservation of resources. Students researching about ‘Space Junk’ researched and connected with with European Space Agency over Skype to find out more about ther issue. To further combat air pollution, the Air pollution group students volunteered to bring indoor air-purifying plants and take care of them. Students working on the issue of ‘Corruption’ connected with Team Anna Hazare—the face of anti corruption and had a detailed discussion about their topic. Carpool campaign to reduce pollution, petition on women empowerment were some other initiatives taken by the children. “Artificial Intelligence” group proposed “GPS enabled ID card” for the safety of school students and staff. A page on academic honesty in the school planner was propsed by the student who inquired about Plagirism.
Overall, the students made us proud by demonstrating international-mindedness and taking small steps to make a difference to this world.
