This week, our little learners reached another milestone in their lives- to have their first sleepover. The anticipation of the overnight camp had been surreal! Students had been asking about the camp for months and when the day finally arrived, the students were ecstatic!
To prepare the children for the sleepover, we had read them a book called “My first sleepover”. Through the book, students learned what to expect during a sleepover and how they can prepare themselves for it. For example, we spoke about the change in eating habits, timings and adjusting into a different environment.
Our children were warmly welcomed at the Muddy Boots Camp with cheerful instructors and the beautiful landscape. Or as Muddy Boots Camp describes it, the site was “straight out of a child’s fable”!. Students were briefed about the grand adventure which awaited them including thrilling activities such as zip-lining, tug of war, commando net, balancing beams and soft activities such as pottery and a DJ party. Students were completely engrossed in the activities and participated with immense energy.
Through the numerous activities in the camp, students learned the importance of teamwork and being responsible. The activities ignited a sense of unity amongst the groups with learners chanting slogans to cheer for their team members and taking care of each other.
After such an eventful day, it was time for our children to unwind at the sleepover. The sleepover provided our learners with an excellent opportunity to brush up their life skills. Apart from boosting students’ social and problem-solving skills, the overnight camp also helped build up their self-advocacy skills. Surrounded by teachers and friends, we had a bonfire to celebrate and commemorate students’ efforts, sportsmanship, and bonding.
This event was a big step for our learners towards being independent. Congratulations to all Grade 1 learners on their accomplishments!
