To help our new generation students know and accept all kinds of family dynamics, the students had an interactive session with the School Counsellors. They worked on all types of families including nuclear, joint families, families with an only child, single parenting and families with adopted babies.
The session facilitators were sensitive to the fact that children of this age generally want to fit in and be the same as other children. Puppets, role-plays, discussion through trigger questions, enactments and letters to self were used as mediums to express their thoughts and views. All classes led their circle time discussions, post the sessions on following days, to empower themselves and to internalize their new learning.
We are sure that building respect, acceptance and tolerance at this age, would help our students to be empathetic as a community. We are confident that with the entire school community support, the children would develop more holistically.
