A field trip was organised to Connaught Place with the objective of completing the IA field work on 20th August 2019.
The main aim of the field trip was to study urbanisation with its key area i.e. CBD (Central Business District) and its related characteristics.
The first halt was at Shivaji Metro Station followed by Tolstoy Marg, the Reebok store and the intersection near Haldiram’s in Connaught Place (New Delhi), where we measured different characteristics of the area such as: Multi-storey development, concentration of retailing, convergence of bus routes, concentration of offices, Pedestrian flow, vertical zoning, office complexes etc. Thereafter, we also measured public transportation in the area as flow of buses, taxis and private vehicles. We also counted public and corporate offices along with cars and pedestrians near the Shivaji metro station and other selected places during the interval of 2 minutes each.
We observed the density of the residential societies in the area and collected the primary data for our IAs. The field trip provided the first- hand experience to all of us and enriched our learning of collecting geographical data.
