Primary school hosted a first of its kind Inter-School Science and Tech competition titled Unboxed- Breaking Boundaries, on Friday, November 29, 2019. We had a total of seven schools from NCR who had come in to take part in five different events based on computational thinking and problem solving. All the students took part enthusiastically in each competition and showcased a variety of skills through their completed projects. Students used random, everyday objects like bottles, cartons and cubes to setup their Rube Goldberg Machines where they completed a simple task of dropping a ball in a bowl through a series of complicated steps. The students used Makey-Makey kits to use conductors like bananas and aluminium foil as switches of games which were programmed by them. The Robotics group had an enthusiastic group of treasure hunters who designed and programmed their robots for a race to find the treasure. The room where the students tried their hands at paper circuits was alit with the little LEDs while students worked towards creating their greetings cards using the scientific principles of circuits. Students used their special knowledge and became designers to create the interiors a room through the 3D designing tool Google Sketchup. The day ended in cheers of victory where every single participating schools went back with one or more winning trophies. The overall trophy was lifted by Shiv Nadar School. At the end, winning or losing became secondary where each one of us witnessed a plethora of 21st century skills through wide spectrum of tasks the participants engaged in.
