To encourage learners to make connections with our central idea, ‘We can learn about people's beliefs and values through their celebrations’, we invited Ms. Sheeja from upper Primary to let our little wonders understand How, When, Who, Where and Why do we celebrate Onam.
Students engaged with the presentation as they were excitedly plotting the state of Kerala on the map of India. They extended their curiosity by recognizing that if a learner is in Madhya Pradesh it will take less time to reach to Kerala as compared to the one who is in New-Delhi.
We ended this well-discussed session with an interesting fact about the way we write and read – ‘Malayalam’. Ms. Sheeja shared the secret that even if we read the ‘Malayalam’ from the back to front, it will be pronounced the same. She prompted the learners to try making ‘Pookalam (Rangoli)’ with flowers and share the pictures with their teachers.
This interaction paved the way towards understanding, how different people celebrate various festivals for different reasons and in distinct ways.
