For sure, the effervescence.... excitement..... and curiosity in the class was of a different magnitude when the animals came into the classroom during our fortnightly event ‘Pet and Me’ (week #1). Children eagerly waited for new pets to arrive each day. They enjoyed interacting with Babbar the Persian cat, Casper the pug, Oscar the golden retriever, Brownie and Coco the guinea pigs.......Little animal lovers were in absolute awe, learning new fascinating facts about them. Children reflected and illustrated their guest pets and articulated their peculiar features.
Pet and Me event gave wonderful learning opportunities for our Nursery graders as they could get a closer look at the physical features of different pet animals…their whiskers, fluffy tail, coiled up tail, wet nose, big eyes etc. Children interacted with pet owners and established their understanding about care given to pet animals. They were amazed to learn that animals experience feelings like that of fear, happiness, sadness, angry etc. same as we do and so its imperative that we take proper care of them. It is a great way to foster empathy and care in young students.
